Independent shoe stores can offer an alternative to chain-store monotony by providing warm atmospheres coupled with professionalism. in downtown Lexington, there’s an added bonus: customers become part of a very big, experienced family.
The store has long been a fixture in the downtown area since it’s founding in 1919. Then, it was selling both harnesses and shoes, as well as providing in-shop repair Louis Vuitton HandBags . It has since been moved three times, and in 1965 relocated to its present home at 1780 Massachusetts Ave.
One thing that has remained the same over the course of the store’s 91 years serving Lexington is a sense of family.
”Family is always around,” says Eric Michelson, fourth-generation co-owner of the store.
That family Wedding Shoes doesn’t stop with the Michelsons, he said.
”We consider our staff and customers family too,” he said.
The outside wall of the store’s office is one of the few places free of shoes or accessories on display, and instead serves as a mural of memory for the store’s rich history, shown through newspaper clippings and old photographs.
”We’re all fathers,” said Dick Michelson, the third-generation owner of the store who is still very active in the business. He passed ownership on to his son, Eric, who now heads up the store with his brother, Jerry.
”Working with family is a great thrill – it’s a chance to spend more time with louboutin very prive shoes,” Eric said. “Mom works here also, managing hosiery and accessories and as our bookkeeper, and our sister is a regular also.”
”Like our fourth-generation ownership, we have fourth-generation customers, and the biggest thrill is you never know who is going to walk through the door,” Eric continued.
Through attending high school reunions, staying active in town government and sponsoring local events and organizations, the Michelson Shoe family is getting bigger and bigger.
”Being active in the town goes a long way and allows us to give back,” said Dick.
Jerry chairs the Lexington Center Committee, Eric is on the town’s Appropriations Committee and Dick has been attending town meetings for 40 years.
”Lexington is a great town to live and do business in Jimmy Choo Karina Studded shoe-boots, we always keep in touch with people,” Eric said.
The staff has more than 600 years of experience combined, and Dick said the store’s qualified sales people, measuring and fitting services, and having one of the largest shoe inventories in the greater Boston area makes for satisfied customers.
Even customers who move away from Lexington still come back to the store, he said.
Although the store is closed today, on Father’s Day, the same goes for all Sundays. The store hours list Sundays as “Closed Family Day.”
”We like to enjoy a day with our families, and Sunday is a family day,” said Eric. “Holidays and Sundays are very special.”
